3mediumapples (Fuji or Granny Smith preferred for sweetness and crispness)
2tablespoonsgranulated sugar
1teaspoonground cinnamon
a pinchsalt
as neededCooking spray (optional) or parchment paper
Instructions
Begin by preheating your oven to 225°F (110°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper, or lightly spray it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Take the apples, wash them thoroughly, and pat them dry. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer, carefully slice the apples into thin rounds, approximately 1/8 inch thick. Be sure to remove any seeds as you slice.
In a small mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to ensure the spices are evenly mixed.
Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Ensure the slices do not overlap; this will help them bake uniformly and become crispy.
Generously sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apple slices, making sure to coat each slice evenly for maximum flavor.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, flipping the apple slices halfway through the baking time to promote even crispiness.
The apple chips are perfectly done when they appear crisp and dry. If they are not quite crispy enough, let them bake for an additional 10 to 20 minutes, checking on them frequently to avoid over-baking.
Once the apple chips are finished baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
Notes
For a delightful serving suggestion, arrange the apple chips in a vibrant bowl or a charming paper bag.
